  1. In this course, I hope to extend my horizons through the integration of Social Sciences into education. In my past Social Discourse class, I was intrigued by James Baldwin’s voice and thoughts on Education and the right to liberating education. In this course, I’d love to learn about more powerful voices that support educators who are passionate about promoting education in a transformative, equitable way. I am also hoping to learn more about resources and tools that help celebrate diversity, culture, and new learning opportunities in literature to introduce to my future classroom.
In our class community, I will be an active listener in group discussions and collaborate with my classmates to create a helpful and safe learning environment. I intend to share my thoughts and respect my classmates’ thoughts as well. Since I am not yet teaching in a classroom environment, I would appreciate ongoing feedback and guidance from my instructor, as well as more in-depth instruction on topics such as curriculum development, achieving student-centered goals while meeting state-mandated requirements, and grading protocols.

  2. I hope to learn in this course what are the different strategies educators have used in past to engage students, the cognitive differences that have been seen through the ages of students as they progress from childhood to adult hood.I intend to contribute to our class community by collaborating in discussions and sharing as much knowledge about teaching as possible.I might need support with understanding how storytelling and the performing arts can relate to one another and help students grow in their comprehension.

  3. In this course, I hope to learn more about how I can provide my future students with the best learning experience possible. Because I am not yet teaching in a classroom I have found that there is a lot I don’t know so I am excited to continue to learn from my classmates who do have that experience. In our class community I intend to listen to all of my classmates ideas and opinions and show up to every class with an open mind. I will collaborate with my classmates and actively participate in class discussions and in breakout groups. I am excited to hear about my classmates ideas and beliefs as teachers and find what beliefs I want to bring into my own classroom!

  4. During this semester, I hope to gain knowledge in different pedagogies related to childhood education. As well as how I can implement these theories when I am in a classroom. I think it will be interesting to be able to give a name to the different pedagogical theories that I may already be seeing implemented when I come into a classroom as a substitute teacher. Furthermore, I hope to learn more about implementing the social sciences into social studies education as it seems like time for social studies education is already very limited in classrooms.
I intend to contribute to the class community by sharing my experiences from being in the classroom. As a substitute teacher I get to float between many grades and different classrooms so I think I get to see a lot from the school I am in. I also intend to be an active listener and I hope to be able to gain resources and insights from my classmates. I think I may need support from classmates who are classroom teachers and have created and implemented lesson plans and curriculum in the classroom which I have not really done as a substitute teacher.

  5. In this course, I hope to learn how to create strong, engaging lessons that connect research-based ideas to what actually works in the classroom. I want to get better at building an integrated social studies curriculum, using assessment effectively, and thoughtfully incorporating technology and the arts.

I plan to contribute to our class community by listening, participating in discussions, working collaboratively with my peers, and sharing what I’ve learned from my experiences in elementary classrooms. I may need support with curriculum planning and assessment, especially when balancing big ideas with real classroom challenges, especially because I am not an official teacher yet, and I look forward to learning from my classmates who have all different backgrounds and experiences.

  6. In this course Advanced Study of Pedagogy and Curriculum in Childhood Education 1, I hope to learn how to design strong lessons and curriculum that help support students and meet their learning needs. I want to better understand teaching strategies because I am not teaching anywhere yet so I want to gain as much information and educational skills that will help me become a great teacher. I plan to contribute to this class community by participating in the discussion and weekly reading. Sharing ideas and also asking questions related to this course. I want to learn new things and learn about others’experiences as a teacher. I need support with creating lesson plans and applying pedagogy concepts. Overall having good feedback will help me grow as a teacher.

  7. In this course, I hope to learn how to teach students from diverse backgrounds with understanding and respect, while critically examining and unpacking my own biases. I want to explore strategies that I can incorporate into the classroom to make Social Studies more engaging and enjoyable. My goal is to have students excited to learn about history and understand how it connects to their lives today.

I intend to listen without judgment and contribute thoughtfully to class discussions. I will need support with unpacking the course texts and discussing how the ideas can be applied in our own classrooms.

  8. In this class, I hope to learn how to create a classroom that effectively communicates all required content and expectations set by administration while also creating space for perspectives that are often overlooked or marginalized. I want to better understand how to balance curriculum demands with teaching practices that center students lived experiences and diverse identities. I am especially interested in learning how to maintain a culturally relevant classroom environment, since it can sometimes feel challenging to meet standardized requirements while still honoring students cultures, languages, and backgrounds. Ultimately, my goal is to develop strategies that allow me to teach mandated content in meaningful ways that are inclusive, engaging, and reflective of the lives of my students.
I hope to contribute by being able to discuss the readings and activities in a way that maybe creates a new perspective. I think that I always learn so much from hearing how other people may view information and I hope to do the same. Support I may need would be feedback that is meaningful and gives me something to reflect on. I am currently not in a formal school setting so also just hearing how current educators go about topics we discuss would also be helpful.

  9. In this course, my goal is to deepen my knowledge and understanding of pedagogy and curriculum and how they are shaped by culture, power, and experience. I want to continue developing my teaching philosophy through the reflective lens that this class will provide. Since I have not yet had my own classroom as a lead teacher, I am especially interested in hearing about other teachers’ classroom experiences, as I feel these perspectives will help me better understand how theory translates into real classroom practice. I plan to actively participate in discussions, listen to my peers, and share ideas and perspectives informed by my work in an early childhood center. I hope to gain support in fully understanding and engaging with the course readings so that I can contribute thoughtfully and confidently to class discussions.

  10. In this course, I hope to further deepen my understanding of pedagogy and develop the ways in which I can integrate it into curriculum and my own teaching practice. I’d like to be able to merge praxis and theory as seamlessly as possible, which includes understanding both collective and individual student needs and arranging a learning space in a way that fosters mindfulness, curiosity and community care. I intend to be active and present in the 7203 class community, offering my own insight while engaging with others. Every educator I meet undoubtedly has something valuable to teach me, and I intend to learn. I will need the space to ask questions as well as the space to be treated respectfully in my own learning process and where I’m currently at in my career.

  11. I hope I can learn more and are able to integrate more techniques of pedagogical practices and use of technology in my class. I intend to contribute to our class community by actively participating in discussions and share my experiences as a teacher.

  12. In this course, I hope to deepen my understanding of pedagogy and curriculum design that supports diverse learners. Since I currently teach in a bilingual classroom, I would like to continue building my knowledge of culturally and responsive teaching and learn how to better adapt curriculum to meet students’ needs. I plan to contribute to our class community by actively participating in discussions and sharing insights from my classroom experience. I enjoy learning from others and connecting course concepts to real teaching practice. I may need support with applying advanced theories to practical classroom strategies, especially in curriculum planning and assessment. I look forward to learning collaboratively with my peers and instructor.

  13. Throughout this course I hope to gain a deeper understanding with how curriculum is developed and implemented through researched based ideas and theories in childhood education. I am really interested in strengthening my pedagogical practice by learning new strategies and hearing from other experts in our class. I also look forward to learning how interdisciplinary curriculum and the integration of social sciences into social studies can support meaningful, developmentally appropriate learning experiences in modeled classrooms. I have been doing some research for another class on how there is a link that increased social studies instruction helps students with reading comprehension.
In our class I plan to be an active participant and listener, sharing insight from personal experiences as well as hearing from my peers. I truly value hearing and learning from others and believe that sharing ideas, knowledge and questions will allow for growth, reflection and the chance to be the best version of an educator I can be. I would also appreciate support in better understanding the effective and efficient use of technology in early elementary settings while maintaining developmentally appropriate instruction.

  14. In this class, I want to deepen my understanding of how Social Sciences influence student learning, identity, and classroom culture. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s belief that “education must enable one to think critically and act with purpose” reflects the kind of teacher I want to be. I hope to discover new voices, resources, and practices that help me bring more culture, diversity, and meaningful learning experiences into my future classroom.

In our class community, I plan to participate actively, ask thoughtful questions, and learn from my peers. Since I’m still building my skills in curriculum planning, grading, and overall instructional design, I welcome clear and ongoing feedback. My goal is to continue growing into an educator who creates a space where students feel valued, supported, and challenged.

  15. In this course, I hope to deepen my understanding of how children learn and how thoughtful curriculum design can support their development in meaningful ways. I want to learn how to create engaging, inclusive, and student-driven lessons that meet the needs of diverse learners. I am also hoping to strengthen my ability to reflect on my teaching practices and strategies to improve the learning outcomes of my students. I plan to contribute to our class community by participating in discussions and sharing my ideas and experiences openly. I want to be a respectful and supportive classmate who listens to others and values different perspectives. I hope to learn from our shared experiences throughout the course. Personally, I may need support with applying these strategies I learn into real classroom situations.

  16. In this course, I hope to deepen my understanding of Pedagogy and curriculum design in Childhood Education particularly how instructional choices impact diverse learners as someone who aspire to become a Bilingual Elementary Teacher. I am specially interested in learning strategies that support multilingual students culturally responsive teaching and inclusive classroom practices. I want to better understand how curriculum be adapted to meet students academic, linguistic, and social emotional needs.

  17. Since this my first time taking a course in advanced study of Pedagogy and Curriculum, I hope to learn more through my research of reading primary and secondary sources. I would also like to hear my classmate’s voices about their reflections about the study of Pedagogy and share my responses with them throughout the course. I will need support in reviewing my thoughts throughout the class about how I will teach and become a mentor to my future classroom.

  18. Throughout this course, I hope to grow a purposefully and clearer personal philosophy for curriculum development and pedagogy, one that is related to the diversity groups of students found in our schools. I hope to also develop a meaningful integration of social studies into my instruction. It is not a subject I am very familiar with, but am ready to spread the knowledge through a variety of ways. My main goal as a teacher is to continue to build a frosting classroom environment that is students centered, engaging and accessible to the diverse group of learners. I am current in my 6th teaching year experience.
Although, this is my first year as a Dual language teacher, I have experience in grade kindergarten, first through third grade. I hope to share my experiences and receive feedback. It is very important that we learn from each other and be able to to take away strategies and tricks from this course.

  19. In this course, I hope to build a clearer understanding of how curriculum is actually designed and used in the classroom. Since I’m still a new teacher, many of these ideas are unfamiliar to me, and I’m excited to learn what they look like in practice rather than just concepts on my paper.
I plan to contribute to our classroom community by staying engaged with the readings and discussions, sharing my reflections and questions, and offering thoughtful feedback to my peers. I value learning from others’ perspectives and hope to bring insights from the readings as well as my own developing classroom experiences.
I may need support with connecting theory to practice, especially when it comes to curriculum planning and instructional decisions. I’m hoping to receive feedback, guidance, and practical tips that I can use as I continue to grow as an educator.

  20. In this course, I want to learn different teaching methods that will engage my students. I would also like to learn about ways I can connect with my students that would create a safe environment.
I will be an active participant and a supportive classmate for my friends in this space. I would love to get any form of criticism that allows me to grow as an educator.

  21. One of the main things I hope to learn from this course is how to be able to utilize the teaching strategies or pedagogy strategies of people from the past to help me become a better teacher now and into the future. As a first-year teacher, I look forward to learning as much as I can from this course, as well as learning from my peers, so that I can use any techniques that will assist me in being able to teach my students and facilitate a learning environment. One way I intend to contribute to our class community is by doing my best to engage in discussion and being an avid listener to every one of my peers in and out of class. I look forward to reading my peers’ discussions and listening to our facilitators as they engage with us with the weekly readings. The one thing that I will probably need support with would be understanding how to teach in the lower grades and how to ask more engaging questions of my students.

  22. I hope to learn about better person. Something that has shocked me about my education is its focus on sociology. I had a misunderstanding that I’d be relearning how to do fractions and other core concepts for the basis of my education. I’ve found that classes, like this one, centered on the realities and the social science of teaching to be beyond helpful. I hope to be an engaged learner in class, so I can take these lessons and truly replicate them in my classrooms.

  23. In this course, I hope to deepen my understanding of pedagogy and curriculum in childhood education, especially how to design developmentally appropriate and engaging lessons for diverse learners. I want to better connect educational theory to real classroom practice and strengthen my curriculum planning skills.

I plan to contribute to our class community by actively participating in discussions, collaborating with classmates, and sharing ideas from my experiences. I value learning from others and hope to help create a respectful and supportive environment.

I may need support with refining curriculum planning and aligning objectives, instruction, and assessment, as well as feedback on my instructional ideas to continue growing as an educator.

  24. In this classroom, I wish to learn how to improve and change the learning experience from just teaching a lesson to designing a whole learning experience that can encourage students to be more involved and engaged in the classroom. Inspire and aspire them. Having the chance to be that cool teacher that can make it fun and very informative at the same time.
Providing, guiding, and empowering them through understanding their needs.
I hope to learn also how to support diverse learners (language, ability, culture) and design lessons that don’t privilege only one “type” of child in order to make the classroom more inclusive.
I plan to share knowledge with my peers and participate in discussions, respect diversity and be a good listener.
I will need help in learning how to put theories into practice as I still lack the experience. Sharing experiences and knowledge with each other will lead to better understanding.

  25. In this course, I hope to continue growing as an educator by learning strategies that help students think more independently and engage deeply with their learning. As a current 5th-grade teacher, I plan to contribute to our class community by being reflective, collaborative, and open about my experiences—sharing ideas, listening to others, and helping create a supportive space where everyone feels valued. One area where I may need support is staying grounded in the course’s expectations so I can keep my work aligned with the deadlines. I’m committed to staying engaged and showing up fully for the learning and for our community.
